I like to take projects on from a technical approach that isn’t the fastest or most efficient – or even the best, in this case. I can get an effect more truthful to the vision in my head by using brushes in Photoshop or working with physical paints or cut paper. But this feels right, because of the layer of abstraction between me and the subject.
As I conceive of it, this eye-vase-garlic-scapes-thing can’t be seen head-on. You have to turn your face sideways and allow it into your peripheral vision, and then you might be able to get an idea of what it looks like. So this image is a peripheral-vision impression of the subject. Like how you might draw a bright light without ever staring straight into it.
